It’s hard giving up soda. The carbonation can be quite refreshing sometimes. But sugar is just so bad for you and highly inflammatory to your body!
I have never been a fan of Diet Soda because of the junk they always put in it. The closest thing to diet I sometimes drink is Zevia which is more of a natural diet soda with sugar alcohol and Stevia, a naturally sweet herb. Unfortunately, Stevia always makes me MORE hungry and craving sugar, so I try not to drink that very often.
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to my Whole Foods to find this:
It is R.W. Knudsen Family – Sparkling Essence Drinks. It comes in four flavors:
It has NO sugar, NO calories, and NOTHING artificial. It comes in three flavors, but unfortunately, they only sell the Mint and Cucumber flavors at my Whole Foods. Hopefully, they will carry more.
Verdict: Cool, refreshing, and very satisfying. I really love cucumber water, so this makes it very convenient and easily to-go.
The mint has these following ingredients:CARBONATED SPRING WATER, ORGANIC BREWED MINT EXTRACT, ORGANIC LEMON JUICE CONCENTRATE, ORGANIC NATURAL MINT FLAVOR, CITRIC ACID.
Verdict: Nice sublte mint, cooling, and yummy. I like the cucumber better, though the mint is great.
I probably would not buy the lemon flavor simply due to the fact that it’s very easy to put lemon in your water. Plus, the other drinks already have lemon in them.
I am, however, DYING to try the blueberry flavor. I bet that it would satisfy a sugar craving. Sorry I can’t do a review on it. When I find it, I for sure will! <3
All in all, I would rate these drinks a 4/5. I would rate it higher if they were a bit cheaper. On Amazon, a 24-pack retails between $20.23-$25.92. At Whole Foods for a 4-pack, they retail for $3.99. You are looking at roughly a dollar per can.
I don’t like drinking too many carbonated drinks, because some studies show that it can be bad for your bones, plus it can make you a bit bloated. But one addiction at a time. This really does satisfy a soda craving more than you would expect. So far, I think it has helped me lose a little bit of weight simply because it can be a bit filling being carbonated, and so instead of grabbing a snack, I can just substitute this.
Also, it gives you an idea on how you can make your own refreshing water using plain or carbonated water. Anytime you can make anything yourself will almost always save you money. But for a convienant on-the-go drink, it’s great!
Have you guys tried this drink before? Have any other fun, low-calorie and natural drinks you like to drink or make? Leave me a comment!
